Monument d\u2019images tells the story of an Alain Bernardini artwork commissioned by fourteen employees\u00a0at the Paul-Brousse University Hospital (Villejuif).\u00a0It is made of two distinct parts:<\/p>\n
Part 1:\u00a0a selection of pictures taken in 2008 together with hospital staff.\u00a0Before each portrait was taken, the artist consulted with the subject to decide how he\/she should pose\u00a0for the picture. Bernardini thus encouraged the nursing auxiliaries, nurses, secretaries, technicians, postmen\u00a0and gardeners to take the leading roles in the story they narrate, and to become part of a daring and\u00a0unconventional portrayal, built and acted by workers.<\/p>\n
Part 2:\u00a0A compilation of texts and other various documents such as petitions, press articles and open letters\u00a0were written at Alain Bernardini\u2019s request. Three authors participated in this project: Jean-Pierre Burdin,\u00a0former cultural adviser for the CGT (One of Frances main Trade-Unions) whose text deals with the relationship\u00a0between art and work. Jean-Charles Massera, a writer, wrote a fictional and humourous text about\u00a0the history of the whole project. Finally, Jean-Marc Huitorel, art critic, connects Monument d\u2019Images with\u00a0Alain Bernardini\u2019s general work.<\/p>\n
